Snow On The Mountains … A Big Change On Aspen Mountain … Why Skiers Love These Skis …

First snow of the 2026/2027 season on Pryamid Peak near Aspen, COGreetings from Aspen!

We’ve had a lot of much-needed rain in town from late August into September. That means snow up high, dazzling fall colors, cold mornings, and the imminent arrival of winter.

A Big Change For Aspen Mountain

For decades, the “other” side of the base of Aspen Mountain has been a curious collection of apartment buildings, ski chalets, time shares, city parks, plus remnants of “old” Aspen including lift 1A.

That part of the mountain is home to ski racing plus it’s a place with some of the most challenging and sought-after terrain on Ajax. A lot of locals love the terrain around 1A.

Huge changes are taking place on that side of the mountain.

Lift 1A was partially taken down over the summer. Plans for the area include:

  • Two new hotels.
  • A steakhouse and museum.
  • A new lift that could be a high-speed chair/gondola combo.

Construction just began on a massive new hotel called The Chalet Alpina near the new lift 1A in Aspen

It’s going to be 2030 before all the construction is finished. That whole side of the mountain will experience big changes. If you want a lot more information, go here.
